York Aiki Jujutsu Dojo
Training Sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 19:30, over 16's only.
Location: The Poppleton Centre, Main Street, Upper Poppleton, York, YO26 6JT.
The senior instructor in charge is Paul Brown Sensei 5th Dan.

York and Goole Aiki Kenjutsu Dojo

The Goole Dojo was opened in 2003 at the request of local martial artists to practice weapon forms associated with Modern Budo. The dojo practice with wooden weapons commonly associated with modern Budo: Including, Bokken (training sword) Jo (short staff) Bo (long staff) and Naginata. In addition senior students practice with iaito (replica sword). The Goole dojo is located at Airmyn Village Hall, Airmyn, Goole, East Yorkshire. The senior instructor is Ian Stewart Sensei 6th Dan, assisted by Steve Chessman 1st Dan.

Ian Stewart

 

Ian Stewart Sensei is the senior instructor at York and Goole Aiki Jujutsu, England

 

Ian Stewart Sensei started his Martial Art training in the early 1970`s.  His style is directly descended from the teachings of Kenshiro Abbe

 

Ian Stewart Sensei gained “Shodan” in Atemi Jutsu from Reg Bleakman Sensei in 1980.  After joining Tom Fletchers BJJA/WJJF Myabi Ryu Dojo in Leeds he attained “Nidan” in 1983.  Followed by “Sandan” in 1985 and “Yondan” in 1990’.  These last two grades with the AMA.  

 

During the period from 1980 to 1990 Ian also attained Dan grades in Aikido, Jo-Jutsu and Bo-Jutsu

 

In 1988 Ian moved from Leeds to the York area where he set up his own Dojo York Aiki Jujutsu.  During 1994 the dojo became a member of the Bushido Zazen International Martial Arts Society, gaining the grades of “Godan” in 1995 and “Rokudan” in 2001.

 

At the start of 2009, the club joined the Euro-Budo.  Previously to this, York Aiki Jujutsu has been associated with the AMA, Bushido Zazen Martial Arts Society, the European Budo Council and Shin Gi Tai Aiki Jujutsu.

·                     4th Dan Ju Jutsu

·                     3rd Dan Jo-Jutsu

·                     2nd Dan Aikido

·                     1st Dan Bo Jutsu


 


Paul Brown

 

Paul began his training with Ian back in 1988 and gained 5th Dan in October 2007.

 

Paul set up the Tadcaster dojo, branching out on his own in 2003, moved back to York in 2007 transferring his dojo back to York

 

Paul has a keen interest in boxing, nerve strikes and the weapons sai, kama and kobotan.  All of which form part of the syllabus.
